Mosman
Hall Project
Carletti Architects,
Mt. Vernon
Mosman Hall is the sanctuary for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
one of La Conner’s oldest buildings, which was built with funds
raised by Louisa A. Conner, the town's namesake.
Nearly 2,000 square
feet were added to Mosman Hall to provide more meeting and gathering
space. The architects spent several years on
the design, working to meet the congregation's needs while maintaining
the building's historic integrity.
The addition includes a mechanical
room, two bathrooms (each with stone floors and wainscoting), storage,
and a large, open meeting area that features a coffered fir ceiling.
Custom siding was milled to match the existing siding. Full fire
suppression was installed in both the addition and the existing
structure.
Due to the location, hundreds of yards
of shale had to be removed and hauled off-site. The existing building's
foundation was significantly upgraded, as it was 3 inches out of
level in multiple directions. Much of the repair work was completed
by Sacred Heart volunteers.
