Moore Project

Bruce Mauser Architect

Located across from historic City Hall in LaConner, Washington, the addition of a new master suite, living room, bath, and laundry significantly upgraded this 1940's Arts and Crafts-style home. Concrete block retaining walls and full landscaping compliment the home.

This addition/remodel project had one primary goal: make the new construction look like and blend in with the old. This was accomplished through careful design and planning. With the addition, there are now four levels: the basement (existing), the living room (new), the main living area (existing), and the master suite (new).

An interesting element to this project were the leaded glass windows (visible in the top and bottom photos). Over time, the existing structure had settled considerably and was no longer square; the entire house had to be leveled with a new foundation. Saving the original leaded glass windows was a must. They were removed for the foundation work, then carefully reinstalled back into the now plumb and level openings. The windows, which had conformed to the distorted shape of the old window frames over the years, had to be carefully shimmed back into place over a two-month period.
